Blackpool today were fined £25'000 for fielding a 'weakened' team in the seasiders' 3-2 defeat at Aston Villa on 10th November 2010. The fine turns the 25 player squad rule into a farce.
That night Blackpool made 10 changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Everton. 6 of them players were making their first starts of the season. After the defeat, Blackpool went on a 5 game unbeaten run. Justifying the decision to rest his regular XI.
This season the Premier League brought in a '25 man squad' ruling where the top 20 clubs in the country could name a squad up to 25 players (8 of which had to be trained in England and Wales for a period of 3 seasons before their 21st Birthday) all these players are available for selection. All Blackpool did was choose a squad of 18 from their registered squad.
Yet the Premier League still chose to fine them. Mocking the 25 player squad rule in the process. This is the same Premier League who welcomed foreign investors, a 'Premier League 2' and a '39th game'. So decision making is not there strongpoint.
If the Premier League want clubs to comply with the 25 player rule. Clubs should be able to choose whatever starting XI they want, without the fear of punishment.
Rant over.
it really angers me, the fact blackpool's squad aint exactly a MCFC, Chelsea or MUFC squad - with the ability to play any players from that squad, Aresnal make 10 changes - because they can, not get fined, yet Blackpool play by the same rules n get fined - so dear people at the premier league - whats the point of making a squad rule - if it cant be used by the manager, as & when he feels?
