Today, UEFA announced the ticket prices for the Champions League final at Wembley on 28th May have been released. With the cheapest tickets coming in at £150.
In the same week the British Olympic Association released their ticket prices for the 2012 games in London, UEFA announce their astronomical prices for 90 minutes of action. Let's compare prices between the men's gold medal match and the Champions League final. which will be staged at the same venue.
The prices for the gold medal start at £40 then they are priced at £65, £95, £125 and the most expensive is £185. A bit excessive for what it is, an under 23's with 3 over 23's match. But the prices for the Champions League are something else. Are you ready for this?
Category 3 - £150
Category 2 - £225
Category 1 - £300
Wheelchair - £80
Youth package (1 adult one child in Category 2) - £338
£26 Admin charge (Europe) £36 Admin charge (rest of the world)
I don't know what is worth, the price of the ticket, or £26 to print and post you your ticket(s). This is from an organisation which said (through Platini) "Moving the Champions League final to a Saturday will give families, especially children, chance to see the game."
Obviously he meant on television as £338 for 1 adult, 1 child is disgusting. It is turning your normal fans away, in this climate £338 plus your £26 admin charge is un-affordable. A luxury for the rich which this sport is not about.
On the plus side you can still get to London for £1 on a MegaBus. But I don't think many people who can afford a ticket to the final will travel on the student wagon down to the capital.
The motto for Wembley Stadium is 'inspiring memories'. For £300 I would expect a beautiful model to massage the memories in whilst watching the game.
Sort it out UEFA. Your ticketing pricing is disgusting.
